Today is hump day. We have made it
halfway through the week. There has
been more shifting of crews as progress
is made. The weather report has been
consistent this week, high 70s with a
chance of scattered rain. So far we have
lucked out and stayed dry today. There
was a great breeze that kept those nasty
little no-see-ums at bay too. Some of us
are still itching from bites on Monday.
In talking to one of the homeowners today,
I learned that FEMA comes through
periodically, as their budget permits, and
tears down some of the rundown,
abandoned homes. There are still a few
that are sitting idle, virtually untouched,
since the storm. Cindy told us that one of her neighbors has only been back once since the
storm, and that was a few months back. When she asked what she planned to do with her place,
she said she hadn't decided yet. This storm has caused great emotional pain for people that we
can't begin to imagine.
In keeping with the spirit of the song we sang for devotions this morning, "This is the Day", I
decided to stop and smell the roses whenever possible today, so I have chosen a few nature
photos to post. For a touch of fun I have also added pics of the passerby that ended up in the
ditch in front of the camp. Yes, we got him out. The funning looking spotted arm belongs to
Tom, a victim of the no-see-ums.
We aren't getting very many notes from home. Are y'all still out there?

"This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24
We heard this verse and sang the song this morning. What a way to start the day!! Gladly, the
little town of Pearlington is slowly being rebuilt! Unfortunately, those that have never been here
before, don't know how much devastation the residents have had to contend with. A lot of
construction is underway, and improvements are apparent each time we visit here. (Hallelujah!!)
Sadly, the great loss and the pain accompanied with such destruction is still evident. Even though
it has been 3 -1/2 years since hurricane Katrina, our home owners still share their stories with us
with tears in their eyes. We do what we can in the short time that we are here. Perhaps we can
offer a glimmer of hope to a few of these awesome residents of Pearlington, and ease their pain
just a little.
